2012 Draft Thoughts : Mostly post 10th round guys

Angels:
Hmm..sign Jorge Soler since you had nothing to spend here.

Oakland:
B.J. Boyd has plus speed and is built like a running back. Imagine a stronger Ben Revere with less speed. I really like him in the 4th.
Matt Gonzalez joins the slough of very good players drafted in the 11th round in case teams have extra money to spend.

Mariners:
Isaiah Yates could be intersting because he has potential, he's uncommitted and was taken in the 17th round. He would be one of the better guys to throw a little exta cash at to get signed.
Mike Yastrzemski is one of those Yaz's. He is carl's son.
Logan Seifrit, Brett Lilek, Grayson Long and especially James Kaprielian could be worth extra cash if they have it.

Texas:
I wouldn't go so far as to say they won't sign Winston. They could throw 100K at him and only expect him to play some baseball in the summer and keep his options open in case football doesn't work out. He could be the only college football player in Florida with a sweet ride that is doing it the right way.
Chase Mullins is my overslot pick here. Big kid is going to Kentucky probably but he could be a top of the draft guy in 3 years.
Ryan Burr would be my other over slot target. He's an Arizona State guy but he'd be worth some extra coin.

White Sox:
Eric Jaffe is an arm to watch. He never took off at UCLA but he has big potential. Abe Ruiz is a solid college power hitter and could put up big power numbers. He is more likely an Org guy though.
Storm Throne climbed draft boards last fall but fell this spring. He could be one to watch. Also has an awesome name.

Indians:
Caleb Hamrick is a name to watch. Huge power potential. Big country strong kid..haha.
Nelson Rodriguez in the 15th has had Ramon Castro comps and is a very good hitter. He’s big to stick at catcher but I like him a lot.

Tigers:
I like what they did later in the draft. It will be interesting who they get signed. Devon Travis is a good college bat and could be a good sign. Hunter Scantling is a solid bullpen arm and is likely a major leaguer.
Dylan LaVelle has big potential and could be an impact player at Oregon State if he doesn’t sign. Will Clinard and Logan Ehlers are both good college arms. Ehlers was the best prospect out of Nebraska two years ago and would have likely been their ace this year had political crap not got in the way.
Zach Kirksey, Tyler Hanover and Connor Harrell are also good college bats that should be signable.
Clate Schmidt is likely Clemson bound but would be a coup if they could sign him.

Royals:
Selman has always been underwhelming but has been much more consistent lately and strength and conditioning could help him a ton.
Alfredo Escalera-Maldonado is the youngest player drafted, I believe. He has good hitting ability and is also good defensively. He has a plus arm and can run. He may be a steal in the 8th round.
Austin Fairchild could be worth throwing some extra cash at if available after the top 10 guys are signed.

Twins:
Erich Knab is an interesting guy that could be worth some of the extra cash if they have it.
James Marvel fits in that area as well.
Jared Grundy is an arm I’ve seen a few times this spring that I like.

Cubs:
Blake Hickman has a local tie and could be a good signing. He is a very good athlete with an Iowa commit.
Rhett Wiseman was a 1st round talent for some but his Vanderbilt commitment and lack of polish scared most off. He would be my target with extra bonus money.
Clayton Crum is a sleeper for me. He’ll go to Oregon if he doesn’t sign this summer.

Reds:
Jeremy Kivel is the sleeper in the top 10 rounds. He can hit mid 90’s but has had knee issues and blew out his ACL. He is raw but you can’t teach 95 MPH. I don’t see him that much different that Travieso, honestly.
College OF’s Adam Matthews and Kyle Wren are personal favorites.
Brock Dykxhoorn is the guy to target with extra cash, if they have it.

Astros:
Wow. Great job. Brett Phillips could be a great sign if they can get him. Hunter Virant could essentially be another supplemental type pick but that will take some skill to sign but I think they can get Virant, Hinojosa or Mitchell Traver. All were supplemental type players at one point or another but I think Virant is the best target. Traver will be an impact arm at TCU while Hinojosa could be an impact player for Texas as soon as his freshman year.

Brewers:
Buck Farmer should have went 10 rounds earlier.
Ty Duffy is another solid college arm.
No big overslot guys. Mark McCoy could be interesting.

Pirates:
Jon Sandfort is a great pick who would be a higher pick in 3 years out of Florida.
Kevin Ross is another pick that interests me. He is Michigan’s best recruit.
Walker Buehler is a good overslot target.
Tyler Gaffney is a great athlete that could be a top of the draft guy if he would have focused on baseball instead of football as well. He is inconsistent but he has a clue how to play and that is more than some two sport guys.
Jackson McClelland and Zarley Zalewski are also guys I’ve heard good things about.

Cardinals:
They have signed a ton of players already after the 10th. No big names though.
I love the Ramsey pick at the top where they should save 800K to 1 million and could help sign Kelly. I would bet they sign him and use the rest to throw at Trey Williams, who is a 1st round talent this time last year. If he doesn’t get it, Max Foody should get it. He is committed to Florida State where WIlliams is a Pepperdine commit.

Diamondbacks:Eckels is the only name after the 10th that jumps out to me.

Rockies: Matt Carasiti is another good name. He has a low 90’s fastball with good movement.
T.J. Oakes has a good arm and is the best college player in Minnesota.
Anthony Seise is a high ceiling guy. He’s 6’3", 185 and could pay big dividends if he signs. He is committed to State College of Florida so he may not be too hard to sign.
Ryan Garvey is another interesting name. He isn’t a big potential guy but was a top 10 round guy last year. He didn’t take well to college, so I would think he would be signable.
Dansby Swanson could be a top 3 round guy in 3 years.

Dodgers: C.J. Saylor could be a very good sign if they want to throw some cash at a late rounder.

Padres:
Brian Adams in the 8th is a very interesting pick. He is one of the best athletes in the draft and could be very interesting if he focuses on baseball. The skills are pretty good but he has a lot of swing and miss.
Kevin McCanna could be a good late round target.

Giants:
Ryan Tella is a really good hitter in the 11th.
Drew Jackson could be a top 3 round guy in 3 years.

Orioles:
Ryan Ripken is an obvious name to point out. Cal's son isn't a great prospect but he can hit a little.
I like Creede Simpson in the 25th. He is a solid college bar.

Red Sox:
Carson Fulmer and Alex Bregman are obvious favorites.
Jake Davies in an atheltic 1B that has a decent arm and could fall back to the mound but I think he has quite a bit at the plate that he hasn't proven yet.
Shaq Thompson is very raw but is an extraordinary athlete. He may be a two sport guy at Washington but he could be intriguing.
Holy, Khiry Cooper got drafted.  Another football player.
Kurt Schluter has been up to 94 in the past but who knows if that will happen again.
The name I like past the Bregman and Fuller is Xavier Turner. He is a Vanderbilt commit and man can he swing the bat. He could be an impact 3B at Vandy.

Yankees:
I like the Taylor Dugas pick. He is fun to watch.
Vince Jackson and Jose Mesa are intriguing names.
Ty Moore showed his skills at the NHSI this year including a big home run. He is intriguing.
Raph Rhymes had an amazing season at LSU but will likely go back now.
Eric Erickson has survived TWO Tommy John surgeries already and really knows how to pitch. He is 84-88 but I love the story and hope he does well in the minors.

Rays:
Dylan Floro was a top recruit in '09 but has regressed at Cal State Fullerton.
Tommy Coyle was a top recruit as well and had a poor season at UNC.

Blue Jays:
Ryan Kellogg was probably the best player from Canada this year.
Cole Irvin is a projectable lefty that could be a top pick in 3 years at Oregon.
Brandon Lopez doesn't get much love for what he could be. He could be a power hitting 3B with plus defense. He should be an impact player at Miami.

Braves:
Elander is underrated. He could be a solid backup catcher with a decent bat.
Fernelys Sanchez could still sign or would be eligible again next year. He is committed to Central Arizona CC. They could give him 300K without a cap penalty if everyone else is at slot or less. They are 175k under right now, so he could be an option.
Braden Bishop, Giovanni Brusa and especially Sean McLaughlin. He is a great athlete who could be an impact player at Georgia.

Marlins:
Ron Miller is one of the better power hitters in California.
Cody Gunter has an impressive bat and I would like to see him in pro ball. He is the top target I see after the 10th round.

Mets:
Tomas Nido has a great bat but I'm not sure he's a catcher long term.
Jayce Boyd has never got a lot of hype but he's a solid bat and athletic enough to be a plus defender at 1B.
Stefan Sabol was once a potential 1st rounder but two years and injuries have slowed him but the power is still there. He could be an intriguing signing.
I like Mikey White as an athletic high school kid and would be my over slot signing target.

Phillies:
Steven Golden is a good late round pick. I don't think he is committed anywhere and could be an interesting signing.
Daniel Starwalt is a Stanford commit and Eric Hanhold is a Florida guy. Both could be top picks after 3 years of college.

Nationals:
Freddy Avis, Skye Blot and Cody Poteet were all supplemental type talents. I really don't think they can sign any of these guys but they are good choices just in case.
