Diamondbacks top prospects

This is my first team of the year so I may adjust it some before all is said and done.

1 Jarrod Parker , RHP , ARZ
Parker has some of the best stuff in the minors will be on hold until 2011 because of Tommy John surgery.
2 Brandon Allen , 1B , ARZ
Allen won't walk a lot and will K plenty, but should hit a ton in Arizona, especially against RHP.
3 Bobby Borchering , 3B , ARZ
Sweet swinging Borchering is a switch hitter has been compared to Chipper Jones.
4 Marc Krauss , OF , ARZ
Krauss swings a strong bat and has good strike zone judgement. He is a below average OF and will have to be a LF in the bigs. Could be a steal at 64th overall this year.
5 Daniel Schlereth , P , ARZ
Schlereth has great stuff and could be the closer of the future. Just needs to improve his control.
6 Matt Davidson , 1B , ARZ
Davison has big power and has been compared to former D-back Matt Williams. Will need time to develop and cut back on strikeouts.
7 Josh Collmenter , RHP , ARZ
Collmenter has a mediocre fastball, but mixes pitches well and knows how to pitch.
8 A.J. Pollock , OF , ARZ
Pollock is an athletic college player is good but not great across the board. I see his as Jason Pridie type.
9 Bryan Shaw , P , ARZ
Shaw is a power pitcher and gets a lot of ground balls. If his walk rate improves he could really break out.
10 Mike Belfiore , LHP , ARZ
Belfiore rojects to be a 3rd starter with a decent fastball, curve and change. Debuted in rookie ball, he needs polish.
11 Wade Miley , LHP , ARZ
Miley has very good stuff for a lefty, needs polish. Could be a starter but would be dominant as a lefty out of the pen.
12 Pat McAnaney , LHP , ARZ
McAnaney got hit harder than you would expect with his stuff. I think he could breakout in AA next year.
13 David Nick , SS , ARZ
Nick will probably end up at 2B. He has a unique swing that uses his quick hands to hit line drives. A personal favorite.
14 Barry Enright , RHP , ARZ
Enright did not dominate hitters and I don't expect that he will. He profiles to be a back of the rotation arm.
15 Ryan Wheeler , 1B , ARZ
Wheeler hit very well in pro debut. Great plate discipline, big power. If he can do this next year, look for him near the top of this list.
16 Chris Owings , SS , ARZ
Owings is a player with average skills, but none that blow you away. He can hit and kept up well in pro ball. Should be a solid SS. Not a superstar but a solid player.
17 Eric Smith , P , ARZ
Smith is a strong sinkerballer needs polish but could move quikcly if he puts it together.
18 Evan Frey , OF , ARZ
Speed is Frey's main asset and could be a good 4th OF.
19 Mark Hallberg , 2B , ARZ
Did little to impress in AA this season hitting .249 with next to no power. Could be a useful utility man that can fill in at multiple positions.
20 Matt Torra , RHP , ARZ
Torra hasn't been the same since labrum surgery a few years ago, but is a strike thrower and an innings eater. He is a 4th or 5th starter, probaably a middle reliever. Rule 5 pick?
21 Wes Roemer , RHP , ARZ
Roemer has average stuff and plus command. Should be a successful innings eating 4th or 5th starter.
22 Kevin Eichorn , P , ARZ
Eichorn dominated rookie ball and will be one to watch in full season ball next year. He could move fast if he is used in the bullpen.
23 Rossmel Perez , C , ARZ
Perez is a good defensive catcher that has been rused and has held his own. He is a switch hitter with line drive power.
24 Ollie Linton , OF , ARZ
Linton is a speedy OF who made strides this year. He stole 28 bases while hitting 39 extra base hits. Could be a good 4th OF and if he jumps another notch, he could be a player to watch.
25 Bryan Augenstein , P , ARZ
Augenstein is a big sinkerballer who could make an impact next season whether in the pen or at the back end of the rotation.
26 Collin Cowgill , OF , ARZ
Cowgill was a little old for high A ball and ended up breaking his hand in June, missing the rest of the season. He will play in the AFL this fall. This could help him jump to AA next year.
27 Reynaldo Navarro , SS , ARZ
Navarro showed a little improvement this year while being promoted to the midwest league. He has a lot of tools but needs to refine them
28 Pedro Ciriaco , SS , ARZ
Ciriaco's main asset is stealing 38 bases. Needs to get on base more to utilize his main skill. May be a utility infielder down the line.
29 Bobby Stone , OF , ARZ
Stone is a strong swinging lefty with more power than anything else. He needs to cut back on his k's and walk a little more.
30 Tony Barnette , P , ARZ
Barnette took a step back in his numbers this year in the PCL. It may be the league effecting him, but I'm not real confident in him.
31 John Hester C ARZ
He will be a solid defensive backup in the bigs. He hit well in 3A this season with good pop.
32 Patrick Schuster , P , ARZ
Schuster is known for his no-hitter streak in high school, but will need a lot of polish before he will be considered as a top prospect.
33 Matt Helm , 3B , ARZ
Helm was highly rated in spring but fell in the draft due to a sprained ankle keeping him out most of the year. He did well in rookie ball in the 55 AB he got.
34 Trevor Harden , P , ARZ
Harden didn't do as well as last season as his ratios have slipped. I have confidence in him, but unsure if starting will be his future role.
35 Keon Broxton , 3B , ARZ
Broxton is a toolsy athlete with a lot of power that he can translate to games. He just needs to cut back on his K's. 93 K's in 272 AB is unacceptable.
36 Jeff Dietz , P , ARZ
Dietz has put up great numbers wherever he has gone except for the 6.2 IP he threw in AA this season. Breakout possible.
37 Ryan Cook , P , ARZ
Cook is a sinker/slider pitche with good stats. He could be one to watch.
38 Terry Hose , P , ARZ
Hose is a short righty who dominated batters in Low A and High A.
39 Ryne White , 1B , ARZ
White is short in stature and short in power to contend for a future 1B job.
40 James Skelton , C , ARZ
Good defensively but hit horribly this season. Could be a backup.

  1. After watching Mobile all season I must make a few comments. Skelton is horrible both defensively and at the plate! Frey did better at the plate in the second half but was often beat by good fastballs. His defense was not the best on the team or really consistent for cf. Torra pitched well on what was especially in the second half a badly managed and under talented team. Roemer was just a notch behind Torra. Augenstein was the best of the bunch and Parker needs to develope a plus second pitch. Hopefully he recovers well from surgery. Two best defensive players on the BayBears and in the league were Ciriaco and Rahl at ss and of. Rahl was misused in most of second half and had been the best #3 hitter on club (led club in slg% and spent last month and a half hitting 8th?. Ciriaco had very good second half and clearly is major league ready at ss now.

  2. Yeah, I haven't heard anything good about Skelton but I added him because of info I got on him last year and I still feel he has a chance.
Good info on these guys, I appreciate it. I didn't realize Ciriaco was that good defensively. Thanks

  3. Ciriaco and Rahl made the 2 top defensive plays of the Southern League All-Star game.

  4. Brandon Allen named to AFL all-stars despite hitting .167? Not very encouraging.

  5. Kevin Mulvey is still technically a prospect. He needs to be somewhere on this list, and probably somewhat high.

  6. Mulvey is now 8th. Still had him on MN when I ran this.
